Post: CBD Oil Uses: The USA’s Newest Food and Drink Ingredient

Have you heard? Well, of course you have! CBD has been constantly making headlines in recent months and the endearing cannabinoid has now squeezed its way into ingredients’ lists across the country. However, its growing popularity in making meals and drinks has nothing to do with getting you high. Unlike its famous cannabinoid cousin THC, CBD is non-psychoactive.

The cannabis sativa plant is imbued with upwards of 100 cannabinoids including cannabidiol (CBD) and inconclusive yet significant studies suggest that the compound can help alleviate anxiety, pain, inflammation and seizures.

Nevertheless, there is still a pretty large grey area around this supplement with federal and state governments speaking in different voices with regards to regulation. Moreover, aside from CBD derived from industrial hemp, the DEA still categorizes the compound in the same class encompassing heroin while watchdogs FDA are yet to give the green light on any CBD products aside from the epilepsy drug Epidiolex.

But that should change soon enough given the wave of legalization that is sweeping across states and across borders, with Canada being a recent example. California though seems to be taking a step in the reverse direction with the California Department of Health having prohibited CBD as a food/drink additive until approved by the FDA. The state’s much-acclaimed cannabis culture that was built upon the foundations of freedom is now left to watch from the sidelines while others usher in a new era. Consequently, renowned restaurants that had forged a name for themselves in the niche such as Gracias Madre and Superba Food + Bread have had to tweak their menus in order the tore the line.

Anyway, with the Golden State left languishing in the shadows of cannabis obscurity at the moment, other locations have carried the torch across the United States to propagate a skyrocketing trend of CBD-infused delicacies.
